Bovet’s Récital 32, closer in size to the Récital 30, is the brand’s first GMT watch, innovating upon it. In terms of display, local and home time are shown on a sub-dial at the off-center 12 o’clock position. The outer blue lacquered markers indicate local time with two hands, while a white lacquered ring with 24-hour markings indicates the second time zone. The small dial features a hand-painted day/night indicator at its center.
A true GMT watch, also known as a Traveler’s GMT watch, traditionally allows you to adjust the local time in hourly increments without changing your home time. Bovet watches take a different, more intuitive approach. Local time is set via the sapphire cabochon crown, while a separate second time zone indicator is adjusted via a button on the left side of the case. Using the button to adjust the second time zone hand in hourly increments offers three advantages: firstly, it’s faster than operating the crown; secondly, it prevents accidental adjustments to local time; and thirdly, it protects the crown stem from unnecessary wear. Like many Bovet watches, the movement itself is a visual feast. Through the skeletonized dial, you can admire the flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock, the cylindrical roller indicating a 10-day power reserve at 9 o’clock, and the hand-finished gear train, bridges, and plates. Unlike tourbillons that are usually flush with the movement, this one is positioned high above the movement’s mainplate. To complement its height and enhance its viewing angle from all perspectives, the dial is protected by a panoramic sapphire crystal.
Exquisite craftsmanship is just as important as functionality. The hand-engraved bridges and plates, with their edges hand-beveled and mirror-polished, take 15 hours to complete. Off-center domed subdials display local and home time, finished with a blue and white hand-lacquered finish, while the case back reveals a new square star pattern hand-engraved on the bridges.
As a highly vertically integrated brand, Bovet manufactures over 95% of its copy luxury watch components in-house, including the balance spring, the 375-part movement, and the case. In a standard manual-winding watch, a single mainspring barrel providing a 10-day power reserve requires hundreds of crown rotations to wind. Bovet’s solution is a clever, patented micro-3D spherical differential that mimics each winding action, effectively reducing winding time and avoiding unnecessary stress on the gear train.
This timepiece is available in polished titanium or 18K red gold cases, and comes in three color options, each in limited quantities. The Récital 32 features a rubber strap that complements the dial’s more modern skeletonized design.
