Corum Golden Bridge Rectangular 40th Anniversary Edition

Two rectangular limited editions pay homage to the 1980 Golden Bridge luxury watch.

Corum’s widely recognized rectangular watch, named after the golden bridge that holds the rectangular movement in place, has been revisited in many ways over 40 years of success. Corum released its first round case version in 2016, and just last year we reported on the Corum Golden Bridge Round 43 Art Deco watch, which is inspired by some of the largest suspension bridges in the world and features a 43mm black DLC-treated watch. Titanium case. The previous year, Corum had collaborated with musician Joachim Horsley on a limited-edition Golden Bridge watch. This time, the La Chaux-de-Fonds-based watchmaker pays homage to the iconic shape and style of the first Golden Bridge watch with a new Golden Bridge Rectangular Limited Edition – limited to 40 pieces in 18k rose gold and limited to three in 18k white gold pieces.

Shape the history of watchmaking
Making a molded movement is no mean feat, but despite the difficulties, the Florida-born artist and self-taught watchmaker Vincent Calabrese has created an innovative rectangular movement that won the favor of Corum founder René Bannward Heart. The linearly constructed movement was incorporated into the first fashion Corum Golden Bridge in 1980, creating the illusion of being suspended in air within the watch’s striking rectangular case (connected to the watch only at 12 and 6 o’clock). shell).

In addition to this, Calabrese also envisions placing the movement inside a glass display, so the front and back of the Golden Bridge watch are made of glass. The Golden Bridge was launched at a time when the Swiss watchmaking industry had not yet recovered from the severe quartz crisis, and it was a spectacle that combined not only an unusual case shape but also a benchmark movement.

Measuring 29.50mm x 42.20mm, the new rose gold and white gold Corum Golden Bridge Rectangles pay homage to the Art Deco period from which Mr Bannwart first drew his inspiration. Both watches feature hand-decorated finishes, not only to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the famous Golden Bridge design, but also to commemorate the artisanal tradition of La Chaux-de-Fonds, the birthplace of the Corum watch. Modifications to the design include a 30-meter water-resistant case and a hand-wound CO113 movement. Part of the movement is adorned with 18k gold, offering a 40-hour power reserve and 28,800 vibrations per hour. These limited edition Corum watches are housed within the case of each watch in the same linear arrangement, echoing the work of Vincent Calabrese, who is probably, and remains, the most respected in independent watchmaking. one of the brands. Both watches also feature sapphire casebacks and 18-karat gold crowns, bridges and bridges made of corresponding gold to match the case material of each watch.

Golden Bridge Rectangle 40th Anniversary Rose Gold
The 18k rose gold case of the Corum Golden Bridge Rectangle is engraved with the words “Limited Edition 1 of 40”. Flip the watch over to reveal the Corum key logo printed on the surface of the sapphire crystal case back. These details refer to the brand’s 65th anniversary and the four-year-old Golden Bridge watch. This timepiece features rhodium-plated faceted baton hands, as well as a brown alligator leather strap with a three-fold clasp in 18-karat rose gold.

Golden Bridge Rectangle 40th Anniversary Platinum
The white gold case of the Corum Golden Bridge Rectangle watch features the “Style Sapin” technique created in La Chaux-de-Fonds, a Swiss variant of Art Nouveau, and its surface is decorated with exquisite handcrafted Floral carving. This detail echoes the mice and ferns that have been meticulously etched into the face of each rectangular movement since the introduction of the Golden Bridge in 1980. The three limited edition watches are a tribute to the three co-founders of the brand. Finally, the blue plated and faceted baton hands complement the blue accents of the alligator strap, which is secured to the wrist by an 18k white gold triple-folding clasp.
