New FP Journe Octa Sport and Centigraphe Sport Titanium

When FP Journe launched his Octa Sports watch collection in 2011, we (the Royal Watch Collection “we”) couldn’t believe how light they were. After all, the FP Journe “lineSport” components, the Octa Sport and Centrigraphe (CTS), are made entirely of aluminium. Yes, aluminum! They are so light that they almost feel fake (seriously). They’re not fake, they’re just ridiculously light and ridiculously cool.

In fact, the first aluminum CTS sold at Christie’s for over $467,000. yes. so cool. However, all things have to evolve, and today we take a look at Journe’s new sports collection – the same models, but they are no longer incredibly lightweight aluminium, but titanium.

The switch from aluminium to titanium is indeed a structural move. The soft nature of aluminium presents some difficulties, and Mr Journe believes the all-titanium watch can still offer the incredible lightness that lineSport enthusiasts are accustomed to without any difficulty. Additionally, the glossy grey character of the titanium has brought both the Octa Sport and CTS back to life with a softer character, as the light silver look of the aluminium pieces is polarising.

I would also like to remind you that with FP Journe, nothing is left halfway. So while the case and bracelet of the new lineSport are titanium, the movement and dial are still aluminum to minimize weight. The entire watch weighs no more than 60-70 grams and comes with a strap or bracelet. Below is the stunning aluminium hand-wound movement inside the CTS Chronograph.

Both watches come in a dark grey and matte finish, making them both very smooth on the wrist. Of course, one of the most beautiful things about these watches (and all Journe timepieces) is how cute they are on the wrist. Both the CTS (manual winding) and Octa Sport (automatic winding) are very thin.

All accessories on these new titanium lineSport watches are made of rubber, and both styles feature either a rubber strap or a rubber-lined titanium bracelet.

Similar to the new solid gold dial on the Chronometre Souverain, these titanium parts will be temporarily sold alongside their aluminium predecessors before eventually replacing them entirely.
