URWERK UR-220 SL Asimov – A Story About Meeting R. Daneel Olivaw

When I first met Daneel, two details struck me: his uncanny resemblance to the victim, and the strange ancient chime on his left wrist…this is the URWERK cheap seen from the possible angle Unusual display of UR-220 SL Asimov Elijah Baley meets R. Daneel Olivaw from the universe of Isaac Asimov.

I have never left, nor have I ever thought of leaving Earth. I hate space… Jesse is a medievalist and hates space even more. But living in those steely subterranean caverns, I sometimes dream of the luxuries the New World has to offer, and say that because of her, Bentley’s future will forever be tied to this human-infested planet. But I can never stand the sun, and besides, they (Jesse and Bentley) have a good life in my job as the principal police investigator.

When Dr. Sutton was killed, many said it was an irreparable loss and that the future of humanity would never be as glorious as it was when he designed the best robot. I hate robots. No robot can do a real job like a human… but against my wishes, the captain asked me to investigate that murder and assigned me a partner from the doctor’s home planet – Aurora.

So I met R. Daneel Olivaw for the first time in Space City. His typical Auror physique and astronaut’s sense of superiority have already attracted some angry and hateful eyes from the Terrans working on the scene. Daniel had a broad, high-cheekboned face that was relentless, and his short, bronzed hair fell back neatly and never parted. I hate space, I hate the Astros…but the surprise lineup is just getting started.

Although an Aurora, he wears a mechanical device on his wrist to tell the time. How stupid is this? ! ? Time displays everywhere… I’ve learned from Jesse that Medievalists love those devices from the pre-starflight era. But these devices are extremely rare and extremely expensive. I don’t understand why the astronauts would wear it. UR-220 SL Asimov

That charming little mechanism tells the time in such a weird way that I don’t understand how it works. Our ancestors had innovative ideas about how to complicate their lives unreasonably. It’s like Daneel uses it to read the time instead of just looking at a lighted clock placed around. But the most striking detail is that the device glows in the dark, and it quickly turns out that it’s not even nuclear… I almost missed my speed belt once because my eyes were flooded by the green glow of the device on my wrist… …

Knowing R. Daneel Olivaw’s fondness for the object, the shock of discovering Daneel’s origin and that R. is actually short for Robot is lessened. I’ve always been skeptical about the way he talks and reacts, but I “blame” it on the way the Astros are, rather than everything being the result of wiring and programming. Discovering his analytical brain made me understand how he responds so well to the people around him and their emotions.

But I think he’s not only able to react quickly according to a pre-determined procedure. Only the fact that he is attached to inanimate objects created by humans, as he is, demonstrates the human need to belong. Although, his vast database and scientific knowledge are the reason he is able to use and maintain a 2500 year old device… fake watches for sale

Due to the success of the collaboration, I had to travel to Solaris and Aurora, the two oldest conquered space worlds. Under the sun of those worlds, I met Daniel for the first time. The sheen and luster of his skin reminded me of my first shiver that night in the acceleration lane when I saw the mechanism glow… how strange it was to see these inanimate objects so alive…

Daneel showed me the intricacies of his mechanism: once on the Aurora, he took it apart, cleaned it and oiled it! “Again” – he said… compared to a super fast machine – “some things have to be done the right way”, he said.

If you had told me years ago that I would not recognize a human from a machine, I would have called you crazy. Also, I, a Terran, would have a robot as a best friend and reach the stars – pure nonsense. But looking back on all the adventures I’ve had with him, I understand that R. Daneel Olivaw was sometimes even greater than a man. He can understand a man beyond a man can understand himself. What are we, humans, but biomechanical puppets guided by our needs and greed? When Daneel’s motivation is MAN, it’s not just survival, but physical and mental prosperity.
