Urwerk UR-100V “Blue Planet”

This week, independent watchmaker replica Urwerk launched the UR-100V “Blue Planet”, which uses a new blue color scheme and updated movement.

If you remember UR-100 time and space or UR-100 GunMetal, you will notice that this watch has a “V” added to the end of the model number. This hints at the updated movement that powers the latest “Blue Planet” based on the UR-100. The new movement uses a redesigned dial to bring the hours closer to the minute scale, thereby improving readability.

Except for the redesigned carousel, the UR-100V is functionally the same as the UR-100. In terms of size, its diameter is 41 mm and its thickness is 14 mm. The hours are displayed by Arabic numerals located on one of the three carousel pods (planets), and the minutes are indicated on the retrograde scale by the lime green arrow connected to each hour pod (planet).

As stated by Urwerk, it retains the same astronomical functions as the original UR-100: “The astronomical action takes place under the large observation dome. When completed, the green and yellow arrows on the dial indicating the minutes along the 0-60 arc at the bottom ( Three and one) disappeared-only appeared at 9 o’clock to track 555.55 kilometers, the earth revolved at the equator every 20 minutes. Then, the pointer reappeared at 3 o’clock, showing a kilometer counter, tracking the earth’s revolution around the sun for 20 minutes (35,742 kilometers).

Almost every element of the 1:1 replica watches and movement (including the automatically adjusted Windfänger turbine (rotor)) is blue. Depending on the composition, there are many ways to get the best blue color.

For example, the case is made of blue PVD stainless steel with a blue PVD titanium case back and a blue PVD sandblasted steel crown. In addition, the main board, rotor, turbine, and planet carrier all have blue PVD treatment. The fabric strap is blue with black leather lining. Interestingly, the screws on the dial side are made of titanium alloy and are treated with flame blue using the unique technology of the Baumgartner series.
