Urwerk UR-230 Launches in White Ceramic Composite

A Specially Designed Case Material.
Urwerk is known for all-black sci-fi watches, and the UR-230 Polaris breaks the mold. Made with a white ceramic composite, the UR-230 Polaris features several advances in materials: The white case is made from a proprietary fiberglass-reinforced ceramic that is more impact-resistant than traditional ceramic. Notably, this material was developed in-house, according to Urwerk.
While Urwerk has launched several versions of the UR-210/220/230, the Polaris is undoubtedly the most interesting to date because of the material it uses. It retains the familiar design of the series, but represents what Urwerk has achieved with its proprietary ceramic fiberglass composite. The fact that Urwerk has gone beyond complications and case design is commendable.
The composite addresses one of the weaknesses of pure ceramic, which is known for its durability and scratch resistance, but it is this hardness that makes it fragile. For example, if dropped on a hard surface, ceramic can crack or break. Furthermore, such damage cannot be repaired, so the case must be replaced (and that is inevitably expensive). best replica watches
The UR-230 Polaris is more expensive than other models in the series that feature traditional case materials. The higher price can arguably be justified given the new material, although the material would lose some of its novelty if it were used in cheaper Urwerk models.
Satellite Complications
Glass-reinforced ceramic is closer to carbon fiber composites than ceramic. It actually consists of sheets of ceramic interwoven with glass fibers, placed in a polymer solution, and then baked to solidify the material. The result is a solid block that can be machined into a case.
With a diameter of 44.81 mm x 53.55 mm and a thickness of 18.38 mm, the case is similar in size to the rest of the UR-2XX series. Due to the layered nature of the case material, its finish exhibits nuances ranging from matte to slightly glossy.
Urwerk says the black and white livery was inspired by the aesthetics of Stanley Kubrick’s landmark sci-fi film 2001: A Space Odyssey, as well as the Apollo 11 lander, which was covered in white heat-resistant ceramic tiles. replica Richard Mille McLaren
The white case and white strap contrast the nearly all-black Urwerk UR-7.30. The movement features the brand’s signature rotating satellite complication, with retrograde minutes indicated by an aluminum skeletonized hand with a white-coated tip.
In addition, the UR-7.30 features a newly developed shock-absorbing system in the shape of a “turbine” that protects the movement from shocks.
The movement also incorporates a second set of turbines, which act here as an “air brake” mechanism that adjusts the speed of the automatic winding according to the wearer’s activity level. Turbine winding, which has been present in several previous Urwerk movements, is controlled by a small round knob on the back of the case.
Opposite this is another symmetrically placed knob that completely disengages the rotor, transforming the movement into a manual-winding movement. Two indicators on the dial, symmetrically located at 1 and 11 o’clock, show the current settings of the two functions. fake luxury watches
